Hi All,
I figured this is a technical problem best presented to this list.
I have had all sorts of noise on the bands when listening to HF since I
moved to Corpus Christi in 2002. I found out a few months ago that some of
the noise was from a fluorescent light. This noise was very broad. However,
after turning off this light I occasionally get some lesser broadband noise
and some really buzzing birdies.
Well Friday I was listening to 20 meters when my wife got home and about 30
seconds later the noise was back in my headphones. She is a NY Mets fan and
immediately turned on the TV when she got home. (We are originally from
NJ... how we got to TX is a long story).
Anyway, I was able to isolate it to the video output of the TV that goes
into the satellite box. if either the video "S" cable or the red video
cable is plugged into the satellite box the buzz starts. I tried swapping
out the satellite box and the buzz remained. When I swapped out the TV the
buzz was not present.
This is a 27 inch flat screen Sony TV (picture tube type) that we purchased
in 2002. My wife immediately said it was time to by a big plasma and go to
HDTV. The price she threw at me was enough to buy a K3. Anyway, I was
wondering if anyone knew if the TV was defective or there was a way to
eliminate the EMI. The satellite boxes are 5 years old. I know the newer
ones are a lot different.
The birdies (EMI) are at (approx) 14004, 14019.5, 14036.6, and 14050.0. ....
about 15 kHz apart.
Thanks,
Steve, W2MY
